Freeware Garden: Sky Dawgz

I'll just ignore the way Sky Dawgz is spelled for a moment and focus on the fact that it's the great looking little arcade game I've been returning to for the past month instead. I'll also ignore how it's all about a cringe-worthy thing called dawgfighting and wisely pretend it's all about dogfighting during the epic sky battles of the second World War.

Sky Dawgz is quite the beauty, what with its elegant 3D archipelagos and lovely little airplanes, but also an action packed shooter that's simple enough to be soothing and somehow exciting enough to instantly hook you.

This is no simulator either. All you'll get to do is steer left or right and shoot and thus you can focus on maneuvering and blowing things out of the air without having to keep an eye on altitude, flaps or even the simplest of HUDs. Even the health of your Spitfire (I'd like to believe) is elegantly communicated via the type of smoke it emits.

Sky Dawgz can get a bit too easy after some practice, but it has still kept its long-term appeal for me. Besides, this being a project that's supposed to be still be under development I urge you to at least keep an eye on it, for a mere few touches and a name change could help it achieve true excellence.
