Rainbow Six Siege Rook: Q1 2019, what he can do and how to use him

Get your armour plates here

Having an added layer of protection in cover is good and all, but in Rainbow Six Siege, you may want a defender that is immediately useful to the team by providing armour for them to wear. Rook has seen a slight damage reduction to his MP5, but he still has an ability that's perfect for new players to use. This guide on Rook will show you the weapons and gadgets he has on offer, as well as detail exactly why your teammates will be looking at you eagerly when the round starts.

Rook operator guide

If there's ever a simpler defender to play as, Rook is your man. His ability is a one-use skill to dump right at the beginning to allow your team to suit up and prepare for battle. From that point on, you're essentially just trying to defend the point and rely on your now armoured up teammates to get the job done. You're not completely defenceless however and our Rainbow Six Siege guide hub will tell you what you can do to stay alive for as long as possible.

Rook's Weapon Loadouts

Much like Doc, Rook also has access to the SG-CQB pump-action shotgun, the P90 submachine gun and the MP5 submachine gun. With the most recent update, the maximum damage of the MP5 has been reduced from 30 to 27, which definitely makes a huge difference. Allegedly this was done for balancing reasons as the win delta for Rook and Doc was increased. This in turn makes him a little less useful in a gunfight, so it's your choice of P90 or MP5 as to which you use. As for sidearms, once again Rook has the choice between the P9 and the LFP586; the P9 is recommended here.

Rook's Gadgets

The gadgets on offer for Rook players are the impact grenades and the deployable shield. Generally speaking it's better to go with the grenades in this instance, though the deployable shield is good for those who are working together.

Rook's Skill

Rook has a bag full of armour plates to dish out to anyone on his team. Once laid down, there's enough plates for the players in your team. Should someone bring you down and you are somehow revived, you are able to pick up another armour pack provided that someone on your team chose not to take one.

Should I pick Rook?

Rook's ability is far from the flashiest out there, but that doesn't mean it isn't handy. Giving essentially more armour to your teammates means that they can take more damage before being killed. They'll thank you in the long run and you'll have contributed at a very early stage to your team's success. Even though his MP5 has seen a big nerf, he's still a very good operator for new players to wield because his ability is useful to everyone on your team and requires very little effort on your part.
