Under Surveillance: 14 Minutes Of Watch_Dogs

It's never 15, is it? It's always 14. I think it's a code. A message the publishers are trying to send us, perhaps the very secrets to unlocking the mysteries of the universe, or perhaps unleashing hell itself? Or maybe I watched Pi a couple of nights ago and am in the process of accordingly losing my mind. Whatever the nefarious reason, there are fourteen minutes of oh-please-be-as-good-as-you-look-you-might-be Watch_Dogs to see below.

This lot is narrated by animation director Colin Graham, and is apparently all non-mission content. "Totally systemic," he says. Which I believe is what the young people cry as they leap from surfboard to skateboard.

Of course, one of the reason this takes 14 minutes is how slowly the character walks everywhere. And I'm not entirely overwhelmed by the words, "Everything in the environment can be hacked, so we're going to make some dynamic cover." As opposed to every other game where there's already just some cover. Come on, game. Be different. But then you'll see how an emergent crime intervention becomes a car chase. And coo, it's looking beautiful - that really is Chicago!

I also really like how morality isn't defined by meters in the game. Get spotted doing something naughty, and it'll affect your reputation. But do it behind closed doors and you're the only one who has to live with what you've done. And then that interesting blur of other players being able to appear in your single-player game. Well, take a look at it in the last section of the video - it looks really good.
